SPECIAL EVENT

Tea Gathering with Chado Urasenke Tankokai

Experience the intricate ritual and deep symbolism of the Japanese tea ceremony, Chado, in this demonstration by Urasenke, one of the main schools in Kyoto with its tradition tracing back to the 17th century.

Chado centres on the activity of the host and guest spending time together over a bowl of matcha tea. The host serves the guest a bowl of tea and the guest participates in the experience with sincerity, both cherishing the unrepeatable nature of the encounter and the meaning in every moment.

Described as the art of living, the profound legacy of the tea ceremony lies in its philosophy as much as its practice of mindfulness and simplicity. It encourages a more intentional, harmonious approach to life, reminding us to slow down, be present in the moment and find beauty in the everyday.

Presented in collaboration with Chado Urasenke Tankokai as part of Living Gently, a season of slow programming and environments embracing a different way of looking and living.
