SPECIAL EVENT

In the Ether–A Festival of Quantum Science and Technology

In the Ether–A Festival of Quantum Science and Technology, celebrates a century of quantum mechanics—a field that continues to revolutionise our understanding of the world and shape the technologies that define our future.

As part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, as declared by the United Nations General Assembly, this year’s edition of In the Ether invites visitors to explore the invisible rules that govern our world through a series of installations, performances, talks, and education programmes.

Situated across the museum, scientific concepts come alive through poetic and tangible experiences inspired by physics, quantum research and technology. Interact with experiments and activities that explain core principles and reveal the inner working of devices such as quantum computers and quantum communication satellites.

These installations challenge us to rethink the nature of observation, the boundaries of perception, and the potential for research to shift the trajectory of our world.

Whether you're an experienced scientist or new to quantum, In the Ether–A Festival of Quantum Science and Technology invites you to experience the beauty, complexity, and transformative power of quantum – through the union of art and science.

This festival is presented by ArtScience Museum and includes scientific contributions from the Centre for Quantum Technologies, Singapore.

About IYQST

International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

In recognition of quantum science’s profound impact, the United Nations has declared 2025 the international Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ).

This global initiative marks 100 years of quantum mechanics and aims to raise public awareness of quantum science and its impact through events, education and outreach.

Quantum Science Fair

Co-presented by ArtScience Museum and the Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT), Singapore, the fair features artefacts loaned from CQT, interviews with its scientists, and hands-on experiments adapted from Light and Matter, a special exhibition by Deutsches Museum, Munich, in partnership with the Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST).

Centre for Quantum Technologies

The Centre for Quantum Technologies (CQT) is Singapore’s flagship national research centre in quantum technologies. Supported under Singapore’s National Quantum Strategy, the centre has nodes at partner institutions and coordinates research talent across the country.

Our partner institutions are universities – the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design – and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research.

We bring together physicists, computer scientists and engineers to do basic research on quantum physics and to build devices based on quantum phenomena. Experts in this new discipline of quantum technologies are applying their discoveries in computing, communications, and sensing.

Deutsches Museum, Munich and Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology

The Cluster of Excellence Munich Center for Quantum Science and Technology (MCQST) is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) under Germany’s Excellence Strategy and aims to establish Munich as a central hub in the field.

The cluster is a collaboration between two major universities – LMU Munich and TU Munich – and three renowned institutions: the Max Plank Institute of Quantum Optics, the Walther Meißner Institute, and the Deutsches Museum.

In addition to research, science communication and public outreach are core to MCQST’s mission, with initiatives designed to spark curiosity about quantum science across all age groups. A prime example of this commitment is the Light and Matter exhibition at the Deutsches Museum, developed in collaboration with MCQST’s partners.
